If you teach for five years in an eligible school or service agency, then you could get your federal student loans forgiven.
To be eligible for Teacher Loan Forgiveness, you must teach full-time for five consecutive years in a designated elementary or secondary school or educational service agency serving low-income families. You can find the full list of qualifying low-income schools here.
Highly qualified teachers may receive up to $5,000 in loan forgiveness. Math, science, and special educations teachers could receive up to $17,500 in loan forgiveness.
Note: Loans made before October 1, 1998, do not qualify.
